PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero), also known as InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), in collaboration with PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk. (BSI) and the Central Lombok Regency Government, is strengthening the functions and facilities of Nurul Bilad Mosque through improvements to worship facilities and a mosque rebranding program. The mosque is located within the Mandalika tourism area in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
This collaboration forms part of the effort to establish The Mandalika as a world-class tourism destination that excels not only in infrastructure development and the hosting of international events, but also grows in harmony with the social life, culture, and spiritual values of the local community.
As a tangible form of support, BSI has provided a range of mosque facilities and equipment, including copies of the Qur’an, 11 rolls of mosque carpeting, a sound system, a vacuum cleaner, a floor-polishing machine, and various other cleaning supplies. This assistance is expected to enhance worshippers’ comfort while supporting the sustainable maintenance of Nurul Bilad Mosque’s facilities.
ITDC Acting President Director Ahmad Fajar stated that tourism development should carry a broader meaning than simply building physical infrastructure.
“For ITDC, developing a world-class tourism destination is not merely about providing infrastructure, hotels, or international events. More importantly, we want to build an area with a vibrant community, a strong cultural identity, and deep spiritual values.
“Nurul Bilad Mosque is an important part of that vision. We want The Mandalika to grow not merely as a place visited by tourists, but also as a living space that provides comfort, pride, and tangible benefits to the surrounding community,” Ahmad Fajar said.
Nurul Bilad Mosque has a capacity of up to 4,000 worshippers and features architecture inspired by Masjid Kuno Bayan Beleq, one of the cultural heritage sites of Lombok’s Sasak community. Its distinctive architectural design reflects an effort to provide a place of worship that is not only functional but also strongly rooted in local identity.
The mosque is one of the key places of worship in The Mandalika area, serving both the surrounding community and visiting tourists, including those attending various activities and international sporting events such as the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
Ahmad Fajar added that the presence of Nurul Bilad Mosque also represents a development philosophy that respects and preserves the community’s noble values.
“In keeping with the meaning of its name, Nurul Bilad, we hope this mosque will always serve as a beacon of light, bringing tranquility, peace, and blessings. Not only for the people of Lombok, but also for every guest arriving in The Mandalika from all corners of the world,” he said.
Furthermore, the collaboration between ITDC, BSI, and the Central Lombok Regency Government is expected to strengthen Nurul Bilad Mosque’s role as a center for religious and social activities, while helping create a welcoming and comfortable tourism environment rooted in local wisdom.
Meanwhile, BSI President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo stated that the support for Nurul Bilad Mosque is part of BSI’s commitment to expanding its contribution to tourism destinations, not only through Islamic banking services but also through its role as a Financial, Spiritual, and Social Partner for the community.
“We hope that a mosque can be more than just a place of worship. It can also become a center of civilization and a hub for collaboration, bringing together the community’s diverse potential. We hope Nurul Bilad Mosque will become a place where golden opportunities and achievements begin, where children and younger generations learn the Qur’an, develop good character, learn the value of sharing, and nurture their love for religion and their fellow human beings,” Anggoro said.
The synergy among the three parties reflects the importance of collaboration between tourism area managers, the business sector, and local government in promoting inclusive tourism development that delivers sustainable benefits to the community.
For ITDC, the development of The Mandalika is aimed at transforming the area from an event-driven destination into a year-round living destination, with an integrated ecosystem encompassing sports, tourism, culture, social activities, and community life.
Through this collaboration, ITDC reaffirms that the success of a destination is measured not only by the number of tourists it attracts or the grandeur of its infrastructure, but also by the extent to which it delivers benefits, comfort, and a sense of pride to the people living within and around the destination.
