The stage is set for one of Asia’s most anticipated golfing events as the SJM Macao Open 2025 returns from October 16–19 at the scenic Macau Golf & Country Club. Boasting a prize purse of USD 1 million, this year’s tournament brings together a world-class line-up led by England’s Lee Westwood, a former World No. 1, and Korean PGA Tour star Sungjae Im, who will be making his debut in Macao.
Jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, SJM Resorts, S.A. (SJM), and IMG, with the support of the Asian Tour and the Macau Golf Association, the tournament continues its tradition as one of Asia’s longest-running and most prestigious events.
A Triumphant Return for Westwood
For Lee Westwood, the Macao Open holds a special place in his career. He last lifted the trophy here in 1999, and 26 years later, he is eager to rekindle that winning feeling.
“I am thrilled to be playing at the SJM Macao Open this October. I have fond memories from my win here 26 years ago. The course always brings out the best in me, and I am looking forward to hopefully bringing home a second Macao Open crown,” said Westwood.

Sungjae Im’s First Taste of Macao
Meanwhile, Korean golf sensation Sungjae Im will be testing his skills on Macao soil for the very first time. A two-time PGA Tour winner and three-time Presidents Cup player, Im sees the tournament as both a challenge and an opportunity.
“I have heard excellent things about the SJM Macao Open and the city. Fellow players have told me about the beautiful but challenging course at Macau Golf & Country Club, and I cannot wait to make my first trip to Macao a successful and enjoyable one,” he shared.
Building Macao’s Sporting Legacy
Beyond the fairways, the Macao Open has become a showcase for the city’s ambition to blend sports and tourism.
See Lei, Acting Vice President of the Sports Bureau, highlighted the event’s impact:
“Since its inception in 1998, the Macao Open has grown to become a hallmark championship on the Asian Tour. Leveraging the synergy between sports and tourism, we aim to attract athletes and visitors from around the world while reinforcing Macao’s reputation as a global leisure and sporting hub.”
Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, reaffirmed the sponsor’s long-term commitment:
“SJM has been a dedicated supporter of sports development, and we proudly revived the Macao Open in 2023. Today, we are pleased to extend our collaboration for two more editions, ensuring the continued growth of golf in Macao.”
The Stars to Watch
The 2025 edition promises drama on the course, with a strong field of 144 players. Defending champion Rattanon Wannasrichan of Thailand returns after his wire-to-wire victory in 2024, while Chinese golf legend Liang Wenchong—a pioneer for Asian golf—adds further depth to the field.
Home fans will also have someone to cheer for: Kelvin Si Ngai, a six-time Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship participant and one of Macao’s brightest young talents.
“Competing in my home city against world-class players is an incredible opportunity. I hope to bring my best game and make the crowd proud,” said Si Ngai.
Inspiring the Next Generation
As part of its community initiatives, the SJM Macao Open Qualifier will return on September 8, providing rising stars from the Greater Bay Area with the chance to earn a place in the main draw. The organizers will also bring golf closer to local communities with outreach activities designed to introduce more people to the sport.
Johnny Senna Fernandes, President of the Macau Golf Association, described the broader mission:
“The SJM Macao Open is a catalyst for the growth of golf in Macao. We aim to elevate the competitive level of local players while expanding the city’s sporting culture.”
Free Access for Fans
Adding to the excitement, spectators will once again be able to register for free admission tickets, with up to four tickets available per person.
As Grant Slack, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Golf, noted:
“The SJM Macao Open consistently delivers thrilling action on the course and world-class hospitality off it. With the continued support of our partners, the tournament will only get stronger.”
With golfing legends, rising stars, and a spectacular venue, the SJM Macao Open 2025 is set to cement its place as one of Asia’s standout sporting events of the year. TS-01
