Badung Regent, represented by Regional Secretary Ida Bagus Surya Suamba, welcomed the working visit of the Delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Badung Government Center on Tuesday (Dec 2).
The visit, led by BKSAP Chair Syahrul Aidi Maazat, was held to discuss the theme “Strengthening Parliamentary Diplomacy in Blue Economy Issues Through Synergy with Regional Governments.”
In addition to the Regional Secretary and relevant regional apparatus leaders, the activity was also attended by representatives from the Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency, the Faculty of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Udayana University, the Faculty of Agriculture of Warmadewa University, and Kelan Traditional Village.
In his remarks, delivered by Regional Secretary Surya Suamba, the Regent expressed appreciation and gratitude to the BKSAP delegation for choosing Badung Regency as the destination for their working visit. He explained that the blue economy in Badung is interpreted as a development approach that synergizes marine-based economic growth with ecosystem sustainability and the strengthening of maritime culture. This reflects a transformation from exploitation toward sustainable utilization.
Through this dialogue, it is hoped that BKSAP’s diplomatic support can position Badung as a model for integrating tourism and traditional fisheries in global parliamentary forums. BKSAP is also expected to help bridge Badung Regency’s access to international grants for mangrove rehabilitation, coral reef restoration, and climate change adaptation projects for coastal communities, as well as support in legislation, budgeting, and oversight.
BKSAP Chair Syahrul Aidi Maazat stated that BKSAP is one of the functional bodies of the DPR RI tasked with conducting parliamentary diplomacy. Its duties include building inter-parliamentary relations, strengthening multilateral cooperation through international organizations, and ensuring the DPR’s participation in various global forums relevant to national interests.
Badung was chosen for this diplomatic activity because it serves as one of the best examples of how blue economy issues directly intersect with community life. Badung is home to marine tourism as an economic driver, innovations in clean energy, and the implementation of electric boats in Kelan Village.
“Badung offers valuable lessons for parliamentary diplomacy. Through this forum we also hope to hear contributions from academics in marine research,” he added.
The meeting is expected to create substantive two-way dialogue, where local insights can enrich the recommendations of the ongoing Working Committee (Panja). It also aims to build long-term synergy between parliament, universities, and communities, and reinforce the understanding that global agendas succeed only when connected to local practices and needs.TS-01
