Women’s surfing continues to grow rapidly in Bali, as shown by the enthusiasm of hundreds of participants at the Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day 2026, which successfully recorded the highest number of participants in the event’s history.
Entering its 23rd edition, the annual event held at Rip Curl School of Surf, Sanur, Bali, on May 10, 2026, attracted more than 150 women of various ages and skill levels, ranging from beginners to experienced surfers.
More than just a surfing lesson, the event has evolved into a platform for women’s empowerment, helping participants build confidence, solidarity, and stronger connections within the surfing and ocean-loving community.
Participants received direct coaching from Rip Curl female athletes and professional surf coaches. They were equipped with basic surfing techniques as well as important ocean safety knowledge to help them feel more comfortable and confident in the water.

“I first joined Girls Go Surfing Day when I was 11 years old, and I’ve been inspired to see how much this event has grown since then,” said Rip Curl Indonesia athlete Taina Izquierdo.
“Seeing more than 150 women supporting each other both in and out of the water today feels incredibly special. The energy, confidence, and community spirit are amazing,” she added.
The event atmosphere was also enlivened with various supporting activities such as yoga, ice baths, beach volleyball, music performances, and community activations with event partners. The gathering became a space for women with shared passions to celebrate ocean culture and a healthy lifestyle.
Beyond sports, Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day 2026 also carried a strong environmental message. Through a coral gardening program led by the Rip Curl School of Surf team, participants were invited to plant coral spiders to help revitalize the coral garden located in front of the surf school area.
Support from sponsors and local partners also contributed to the event’s success. BGS Coffee, Indo Amazon, and Yummy Dairy provided food and beverages to keep participants energized throughout the day, while DJ Lissa Cahaya entertained attendees during the sunset session alongside Island Brewing.
The sunset moment later transformed into a vibrant community celebration as participants gathered on the beach to share and celebrate their surfing experiences together.
The success of this year’s event is seen as proof of the growing development of women’s surfing in Indonesia, while also reflecting Rip Curl’s commitment to creating broader access for women to explore surfing culture and ocean activities.
The event was supported by various partners including Mamaka Hotels & Resorts, Solcreme, Megatix, Yummy Dairy, BGS, Island Brewing, Sensatia, Indo Amazon, Onboard Bali, Hydroflask, Prama, The Beach, and Coca Cola.
In addition to supporting the event, several partners also contributed to participants’ comfort. Solcreme Sunscreen helped protect participants from sun exposure, Sensatia provided post-surf skincare products, while Mamaka Hotels & Resorts hosted invited guests from Bali and Jakarta.

The event series concluded with an official afterparty dinner at Kuta Social Club.
For those who were unable to join this year’s event, Rip Curl School of Surf Sanur continues to offer daily surfing classes throughout the year for beginners as well as surfers looking to improve their skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.
