Another incident occurred as a local tourist was swept away by ocean currents while swimming at Diamond Beach, Pejukutan Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency, on Tuesday (27/5/2025).
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a person floating from atop the cliff.
The incident was promptly responded to by the SAR team already conducting a search for a missing fisherman at Tebing Jepang, Ceningan. Upon receiving the report, seven personnel from the Nusa Penida SAR Unit immediately approached the scene at full speed using a rigid inflatable boat (RIB).
“We received the information at around 13:55 WITA from Mr. Pande Sutrisna,” explained I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.
According to witness accounts, the incident occurred around 13:30 WITA. The victim was identified as Raihan Hanafi (24), listed on his ID card as a resident of Birem Puntong, Langsa Baro District, Medan. He was visiting the beach with friends for a leisure trip.
Personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office also coordinated with the Nusa Penida Police to gather further information. According to police chronology, three members of the seven-person group, including the victim, swam approximately 50 meters from the shoreline. During the swim, it began to rain. While the two others managed to return to shore, Raihan Hanafi was pulled further out by the currents and eventually disappeared.
When the joint SAR team arrived at the scene, no signs of the victim were found. Search efforts in the surrounding area yielded no results.
The SAR operation will resume the following morning. The ongoing SAR efforts involve personnel from the Nusa Penida SAR Unit, Nusa Penida Police, relatives of the victim, and local residents. TS-01
