French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, H.E. Fabien Penone, visited the Bali Culinary Pastry School (BCPS) in Nyanyi, Tabanan, on Saturday (11/10), reaffirming France’s commitment to deepen collaboration with Bali in education, gastronomy, and cultural exchange.
The visit, part of French Gastronomy Week 2025, underscored the shared ambition of both countries to nurture young talent and promote world-class culinary education rooted in cultural heritage. BCPS, part of the Bali International Training and Development Center (BITDeC) under the Nyanyi Bali ecosystem, has become a model of how global partnerships can empower local excellence.
“France and Indonesia share a common vision to build long-term partnerships in education, culture, and gastronomy. What Bali Culinary Pastry School is doing here truly embodies that vision — reinforcing people-to-people connections and creating new opportunities for collaboration,”
— H.E. Fabien Penone, French Ambassador to Indonesia.
Ambassador Penone described BCPS as “one of the most accomplished institutions I have visited in Indonesia’s gastronomic field.”
He was welcomed by Made Ariani Siswanto, Founder of BCPS and President Commissioner of Valrhona Chocolate Bali Park, along with Dr. Paulus Herry Arianto, Deputy Director of Politeknik Internasional Bali (PIB College), and the Nyanyi Bali Board of Directors. The delegation also included senior representatives from the French Embassy and Alliance Française Bali.
Strengthening Talent Mobility Between Bali and France
The ambassador’s visit highlighted BCPS’s growing network of French partnerships that bridge classrooms and Michelin-star kitchens. The school’s collaboration with Alliance Française Bali has enabled more than 150 students to complete French language programs, while 60 students have participated in internships and work placements in France between 2023 and 2025.
Through these initiatives, BCPS students gain hands-on experience in prestigious French establishments — including Lucien Barrière Group hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, and kitchens led by Meilleur Ouvrier de France (M.O.F.) chefs from Paul Bocuse, Guy Lassausaie, and Relais & Châteaux properties.
“This visit is a recognition of our shared vision to connect education and culture. We hope to continue expanding our collaboration, making Bali a global destination for learning, innovation, and gastronomy,”
— Made Ariani Siswanto, Founder of BCPS.
A Campus Where Culture Meets Innovation
During the visit, Ambassador Penone toured the BITDeC campus, including the culinary and pastry laboratories of BCPS and PIB College. He interacted with students demonstrating their skills and sharing their aspirations to become part of the global culinary movement.
The visit concluded with a degustation session at BCPS’s Pedagogical Restaurant, where students presented French-inspired dishes that celebrated both technical precision and Balinese creativity. The lively exchange of ideas during the afternoon reflected the shared desire to strengthen cooperation in student exchanges, apprenticeships, and cross-cultural gastronomy programs.
