A fisherman is suspected to have fallen from his jukung in the waters of Karang Sanur Beach on Thursday (20/5/2025). The victim went out to sea at around 07:00 WITA, but by midday his jukung was found with the engine still running but without a driver.
“Around 14:30 WITA, the jukung was found by a boat operating the Sanur–Nusa Penida route and the information was immediately forwarded to the Balawista team,” said I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.
The Balawista team, assisted by local fishermen, towed the jukung to Mertasari Beach, Sanur, at around 16:00 WITA.
Based on the report received by the Denpasar Search and Rescue duty officers, the fisherman was identified as Wayan Dana (60), a resident of Serangan. “We received the information at 18.20 WITA from Pusdalops Denpasar, and immediately deployed four personnel to the location,” Sidakarya added.
That evening, the search was carried out by combing along the shoreline. Deploying SAR sea assets was not possible due to darkness and limited visibility. The land search area was divided into two Search and Rescue Units (SRU), one heading west and the other east. However, no signs of the victim have been found so far.
In addition to the Denpasar SAR Office team, several SAR elements also joined the operation, including Potensi SAR 115, Arjuna Rescue, Potensi Namru, Potensi YBER, Potensi IEA, Potensi DRS, Pol Air Polresta Denpasar, the victim’s family, and local residents. TS-01
