The Island of the Gods is not only a world-class tourist magnet, but has also become a hub for groundbreaking ideas. On August 22, the Human Resource Association (HRA) Bali hosted HR Convention 2025 under the theme “Purpose-Centric Leadership: Harnessing People Potential for Sustainable Impact.”
The prestigious forum brought together government leaders, industry executives, and the global community in one arena. The main focus: how to develop human capital that is not only productive but also inclusive and sustainable.
One of the convention’s highlights was the launch of the Bali Hospitality Talent Playbook, a strategic guide designed to strengthen Bali’s tourism ecosystem through top-tier talent.
“Human capital transformation can no longer stop at administrative functions. We must shift to a purpose-centric paradigm that emphasizes People, Productivity, and Inclusivity,” asserted Prof. Anwar Sanusi, Ph.D., Head of the National Workforce Planning and Development Agency.
According to him, cross-sector collaboration is the key to enhancing workforce competitiveness, particularly in the hospitality sector—Bali’s frontline image to the world.
The convention was not just about business strategies; it also underscored the importance of cultural identity.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Tjok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, M.Si., Chairman of PHRI Bali, emphasized that diversity and local wisdom must remain at the heart of Bali’s hospitality identity.
“The DNA of Bali Hospitality lies in celebrating local wisdom, not forgetting it,” he remarked.
Similarly, Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana, Chairman of the Bali Tourism Board, stressed the need to prepare local talent to strengthen Bali’s regional branding on the global stage.
From the corporate side, Miftahuddin Amin (EVP & Chief Administration Officer, Paragon) highlighted the importance of building purpose-driven organizations as the foundation of sustainable business.
Meanwhile, Dudi Arisandi (Chief People Officer, Tiket.com) shared strategies for developing agile, customer-focused teams in the era of digital transformation.
The spotlight also turned to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
• John Flood (CEO, Archipelago International) underlined the role of visionary leadership and effective systems in sustainable hospitality.
• Edward Speirs (Head of Publishing, Phoenix Communication & MD NOW! Magazine) discussed how media can shape responsible hospitality narratives.
• Rahmi Fajar Harini (Founder, Eco Tourism Bali) offered practical strategies to turn SDG awareness into real, actionable steps for industry players.
The convention closed with focus group discussions covering four pressing workplace issues: employee protection, employer branding, mental health, and the application of positive psychology in managing a multigenerational workforce.
“HR Convention 2025 is a call to action, uniting vision, values, and tangible initiatives for a future of work that is productive, inclusive, and sustainable,” said Vira Risnayani, Chairperson of HRA Bali.
With its spirit of cross-sector collaboration, Bali once again reaffirmed itself not only as a tourist destination, but also as a breeding ground for global ideas. From here, the future of human capital in Indonesia—and perhaps the world—is being mapped.
