Bali continues to strengthen its reputation as a world-class gastronomic destination. This time, recognition goes to Syrco BASÈ, the fine dining restaurant in Ubud founded by two-Michelin-star chef Syrco Bakker, which is increasingly earning acclaim in both the national and international culinary scene.
The restaurant, which officially opened in January 2024, has successfully entered the prestigious “20 Best Restaurants 2026” list by Tatler Dining Indonesia. In addition, Syrco BASÈ once again received a Gold Award at the PRESTIGE Gourmet Awards Indonesia’s 30 Best Restaurants 2026 for the second consecutive year.
The recognition marks an important milestone for the restaurant, which promotes contemporary Indonesian gastronomy while highlighting local ingredients, sustainability, and culture-driven culinary experiences.
Chef Syrco Bakker said the awards demonstrate the immense potential of Indonesian cuisine to continue growing on the global stage.
“These awards mean a lot to us because they reflect the passion, care, and dedication of our entire team, suppliers, artisans, farmers, and local producers who have grown together with Syrco BASÈ,” he said.
According to him, Syrco BASÈ was created not merely as a restaurant, but as a creative space that connects food, culture, community, and sustainability.
Guided by the principles of Traceability, Nature, and Transparency, the restaurant offers dining experiences that invite guests to understand the origins of ingredients, the preparation process, and the cultural stories behind every dish.
Tatler Dining Indonesia included Syrco BASÈ among the country’s best restaurants for its ability to deliver innovation while helping shape the future of Indonesian gastronomy.
Meanwhile, the PRESTIGE Gourmet Awards Indonesia selected winners through a blind judging process involving nearly 40 lifestyle figures, entrepreneurs, artists, culinary innovators, and designers from across Asia.
Beyond these achievements, Syrco BASÈ is also preparing for a new chapter in its culinary journey. Starting in June 2026, the restaurant will introduce a new menu exploring Indonesia’s biodiversity and culinary identity through Chef Syrco’s contemporary approach.
In addition, KU Culinary Atelier and Syrco BASÈ Bar will launch new concepts and menus by the end of May 2026.
KU Culinary Atelier will further elevate its exclusive fine dining experience through storytelling and a deeper exploration of culinary techniques. Meanwhile, Syrco BASÈ Bar is preparing a new bar food menu inspired by Indonesia’s diverse flavors and communal dining culture.
Chef Syrco emphasized that the restaurant’s evolution is not about following trends, but about deepening its connection with nature, culture, and the local community.
“For us, evolution is not about changing direction, but about deepening our relationship with nature, the people around us, and the stories we want to tell through food and hospitality,” he said.
Syrco BASÈ is notably the first restaurant in Indonesia established directly by a two-Michelin-star chef. Since opening in Ubud, it has continued to attract attention as one of Indonesia’s emerging icons of culture-based and sustainable gastronomy. TS-01
